MAsketball Episode 3 – Veronica Burton

By: Ethan Fuller

Welcome to the newest podcast in the WTBU Sports network – MAsketball!

In my time as a reporter and resident, I’ve discovered that basketball in the Bay State doesn’t get the coverage it deserves. When most people think of basketball in Massachusetts, they evoke memories of the Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, and the history of the Boston Celtics.

But modern basketball culture is just as rich as ever. I set out to talk to some of the state’s most influential basketball figures to understand their stories and their perspectives on the local hoops scene.

Veronica Burton is the guest feature for Episode 3. Burton, a Newton, MA native and a rising junior at Northwestern University, took home Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year honors while racking up 100 steals in her sophomore season.

Burton is also the youngest member of a family with a rich athletic history that includes football players, basketball players and an All-American swimmer. On MAsketball she discussed that family dynamic, as well as how she has developed her defensive talents and thrived within NU’s Blizzard system.
