Welcome to the newest podcast in the WTBU Sports network – MAsketball!
In my time as a reporter and resident, I’ve discovered that basketball in the Bay State doesn’t get the coverage it deserves. When most people think of basketball in Massachusetts, they evoke memories of the Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, and the history of the Boston Celtics.
But modern basketball culture is just as rich as ever. I set out to talk to some of the state’s most influential basketball figures to understand their roles in the community and their perspectives on the local hoops scene.
Lauren Manis, a Holy Cross graduate and Patriot League superstar, joins the podcast for its second episode. Manis is the only basketball player in Crusader history to amass 2,000 points and 1,000 rebounds, and she terrorized conference foes (including the Terriers) during her four years.
Manis was drafted by the Las Vegas Aces in April, only to be cut a month later, but plans to play professionally overseas. She talked to me about her time at Holy Cross, her positive experiences with sports psychology, and her future plans.
