In my time as a reporter and resident, I’ve discovered that basketball in the Bay State doesn’t get the coverage it deserves. When most people think of basketball in Massachusetts, they evoke memories of the Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, and the history of the Boston Celtics.
But modern basketball culture is just as rich as ever. I set out to talk to some of the state’s most influential basketball figures to understand their role in the community and their perpective on the local hoops scene.
Episode 1 features Antonio Anderson. He’s a Lynn, MA native who played college basketball with John Calipari, Derrick Rose and the Memphis Tigers before making appearances in the NBA, NBA D League and in Germany.
Now Anderson has returned to Lynn as the head coach of Lynn English’s boys’ basketball team. In three years under Anderson, the Bulldogs have gone a stunning 63-9 on the court.
I talked to Anderson about his playing and coaching careers, his childhood basketball heroes and his perspective on developing young athletes and people.
