Women’s Hockey: No. 8 Terriers travel to No. 3 Northeastern for Top-10 Matchup

The No. 8 Boston University Terriers (17-5-3, 12-5-3 HEAW) will make the cross-town trek to face rival No. 3 Northeastern (21-3-1, 18-2-0 HEAW) in a pre-Beanpot tuneup on Tuesday night.

The Terriers are coming off the heels of a 6-3 win over the Merrimack Warriors last Saturday after tying the Warriors on Friday. Since returning from the semester break, the Terriers boast a 5-1-2 record.

Offensively, the Terriers have been led by redshirt-senior captain Sammy Davis, who leads the team in the three major offensive categories with 11 goals and 18 assists for 29 points.  In goal, junior netminder Corinne Schroeder (12-4-2) has been a force for BU as her 1.56 goals-against average ranks sixth in the nation to go along with her sixth-ranked .939 save percentage.

Last weekend, the Huskies swept the University of Vermont Catamounts, highlighted by their 10-2 rout of the Catamounts on Saturday afternoon. Northeastern has a record of 7-1-1 since the semester break.

For the Huskies, junior goaltender Aerin Frankel (18-3-1) ranks second in the nation in both GAA (1.02) and save percentage (.960). Sophomore forward Alina Mueller has built on a strong freshman season with an even better campaign this season. Mueller holds the fourth-highest point total in the nation with 44 points (15g, 29a).

Both teams may be able to use this contest as a preview for this year’s Beanpot, which BU will host, beginning next Tuesday. The Terriers and Huskies met in the semifinals last season as BU won in the shootout to advance and eventually beat Harvard to win the tournament.

Tuesday’s matchup will serve as a potential Beanpot Finals preview as the Terriers will square off against rival Boston College, who sits just outside the top-ten rankings, while the Huskies will kick off this year’s Beanpot against No. 10 Harvard.

Puck-drop at Matthews Arena is scheduled for 7:00 pm. Brady Gardner and I will have the call for WTBU Sports.
