Women’s Lacrosse: BU Tops Lowell for First Win

By: Marisa Ingemi

The Boston University women’s lacrosse team bounced back from an 0-1 start to the season with a 12-7 victory over UMass Lowell on Saturday in their home opener.

Sarah Anderson scored less than a minute into the game and BU jumped out to a 2-0 lead. The River Hawks took a 3-2 lead but BU responded. BU went later on 3-0 and 4-0 runs, with the 4-0 one to close out the game as the Terriers used a big second half.

Avery Donahoe posted four points for the second straight week. Elisabeth Jayne and Kelly Matthews also contributed to the offense. Goalie Caroline Meegan made nine saves on the River Hawks, who drop to 0-2 to open their 2017 campaign.

It’s BU’s first home opening victory since 2014 when they defeated Holy Cross.

The victory comes after a tough defeat at the hands of Boston College last Wednesday. Next up is a home contest against Dartmouth on Wednesday afternoon.
