Beanpot First Round – February 6, 2017

BC v BU Beanpot

 

Game Two – Boston College vs. Boston University;

 

  • Final: BU wins 3-1 over BC to advance to Beanpot championship game. Goals by JFK, Krys (PP) and Keller (SH). Terriers play Harvard for title next Monday at 7:30 p.m.

 

  • 1:12 3rd: BU with 29 seconds left of power play, still with a 3-1 lead.

 

  • 2:44 3rd: Holding call goes against Matthew Gaudreau. BU back to the power play, up 3-1 late.

 

  • 2:53 3rd: Icing on BU. Still a 3-1 Terrier lead with under three minutes to play.

 

  • 4:52 3rd: Eagles kill it off again. Terriers still lead it 3-1, time running out for BC.

 

  • 6:52 3rd: Another penalty upcoming on BC. Ryan Fitzgerald off for holding the stick. BU to the power play, already up 3-1.

 

  • 9:15 3rd: BC kills it off. Back to even strength, BU leads 3-1.

 

  • 11:56 3rd: Keller goes down over Gaudreau’s stick and draws a tripping penalty. 20 seconds of 4-on-4 followed by 1:40 of BU PP.

 

  • 12:56 3rd: Kieffer Bellows steps up and takes out Michael Kim for interference to give BC a power play.

 

  • 14:49 3rd: Cloonan with a burst of speed down the right side and after chipping it down the wall Luke McInnis drops him with an elbow. BU to the power play.

 

  • 16:03 3rd: So after all that, still a two goal deficit for BC. BU leads it 3-1.

 

  • 17:12 3rd: After review, it’s no goal. Officials rule Woll had possession of the puck. Tough break for Cloonan, it would’ve been his first goal in 54 games.

 

  • 17:12 3rd: Crazy goal here for BU. Krys pass put on goal by Patrick Curry and Woll stops it but Ryan Cloonan digging away and the puck crosses the goal line. Play under review.

 

  • 20:00 3rd: Third period underway, BU leading it 3-1.

 

  • End 2nd: BU holding on to a 3-1 lead after two, but the Eagles outshot the Terriers 17-5 in the second. Krys and Keller (SH) scored for BU in the second, Cangelosi for BC.

 

  • :20 2nd: BC applying pressure on Oettinger at the end of the period but he makes 4 or 5 saves from in tight, and makes them look routine.

 

  • 3:35 2nd: Oettinger comes up big on two Ryan Fitzgerald chances, first a long wrist shot followed by net-front chance. BU still leads it 3-1.

 

  • 6:25 2nd: Jesper Mattila walks right around Patrick Curry and to the net, but Oettinger there to find his shot through traffic.

 

  • 8:54 2nd: Keller extends his point streak to 15 games with a shorthanded, breakaway goal. McAvoy feeds him and he goes to the net and beats Woll with a backhand for his fourth shortie of the year. 3-1 BU.

 

  • 9:24 2nd: Huge net-front scrum and BC will come away with a power play. JFK to the box for the second time tonight, this time an interference call.

 

  • 9:40 2nd: BC starting to pick up the pace now, they’ve had the last six shots to make it 14-10 BU in that department, but still 2-1 BU on the scoreboard.

 

  • 13:01 2nd: Austin Cangelosi cuts into the lead. Ryan Fitzgerald’s initial shot is stopped, and Matthew Gaudreau, from his back, slides it over to Cangelosi for the easy goal. 2-1 BU, goal confirmed after review for possible offsides.

 

  • 13:39 2nd: Good pace of play here. Media timeout, 4 seconds of play, stoppage, another media timeout.

 

  • 13:43 2nd: Timeout on the ice. BU leads it 2-0 on goals by JFK and Krys. Terriers outshooting Eagles 14-4 to this point.

 

  • 16:37 2nd: BU adds to its lead on the power play. Bobo Carpenter keeps it in at the line, then goes against the grain to Chad Krys on the weak side for wrist shot that beats Woll. Terriers lead it 2-0.

 

  • 18:09 2nd: Bad penalty behind the play from Chris Calnan as he takes out John MacLeod to send BU to the power play.

 

  • 20:00 2nd: Second period underway at TD Garden.

 

  • End 1st: BU leads it 1-0 on the early goal by JFK, but Terriers dominated the period, outshooting BC 12-2.

 

  • 2:20 1st: Roberto and Phelps break in 2-on-1 shorthanded, but Connor Moore with a sliding effort to block the pass. Just seconds later, Casey Fitzgerald records BC’s first shot of the game. Still 1-0 BU.

 

  • 4:00 1st: And then just :16 into the BU PP, JFK takes a holding the stick penalty of his own. Back to 4-on-4 then 1:20 of BC power play.

 

  • 5:20 1st: And just over a minute into it, Ryan Fitzgerald holds Clayton Keller’s stick to negate the power play. 4-on-4 for :56, then 1:04 of BU PP.

 

  • 6:25 1st: First penalty of the game goes to Jordan Greenway for interference. BC still without a shot on the board but they’ll have a man-advantage.

 

  • 9:26 1st: BU with a 9-0 shot advantage over halfway through the opening period. They’ve had a lot of good looks and have one past Woll so far.

 

  • 11:24 1st: Jake Oettinger with a scary play on the puck as it rides up his stick and just past the post. Same net as the Matt O’Connor incident too.

 

  • 13:23 1st: More good work from BU behind the net, this time it’s Jordan Greenway setting up Keller on the doorstep but Woll got a glove on his backhander. Terriers still lead it 1-0.

 

  • 15:31 1st: Patrick Harper with a great individual effort, skating down left wing, behind net and feeding JFK at the net mouth for his 11th goal of the year. BU leads 1-0.

 

  • 17:10 1st: Student sections already going back-and-forth with the “We can’t hear you” chants. No score.

 

  • 19:20 1st: Slick feed from Clayton Keller out front to Patrick Harper, but he had his shot turned away by Joseph Woll.

 

  • Both teams in throwback jerseys tonight. BU in red, BC in gold.

 

  • Just under ten minutes from puck drop at TD Garden in the second semifinal. BU swept the Hockey East series in January, and the Terriers will be looking for their first three game sweep of BC since 1994-95 season.
